My name is Jessica and I live with my dog, Atlas, near the base of the mountains next to a large mountain range.
Atlas and I have lived alone at this property for six years, and we are currently renovating it to become as self-sustainable as possible. Prior to living at this property, we lived off-grid in a truck and camper in the woods and might be returning to that lifestyle in the next year. However, for right now, I am spending my time working on this current property.
I was a dockhand in Alaska, became a nationally certified EMT, was a maintenance technician for Section 8 housing, did night shifts in the ER, and worked the fire line during active burn in my state. I also have my scuba diving and forklift certifications. I have a Bachelor of Science in Economics with an option in Law, Policy, and Economics, and a Juris Doctorate. I worked two jobs in high school and then full-time throughout my undergraduate to support myself entirely and graduate without any debt. Six years ago, I was given a massive opportunity with this property and I took it. I try to make ends meet for this lifestyle through my job.
I work in my career field, but due to the nature of the work, I don’t disclose what I do. This will likely change in the coming year, but I have to ensure some safety and security measures are taken first, so it may be a while. I work remotely except for about a week out of the month when I am traveling. I don’t disclose what state I’m in because I live in a small area, and frequent the same small areas repeatedly each month. For now, I need to keep my job and online presence separate, and my privacy and safety a priority. The same goes for the locations I post on my Instagram and TikTok videos, and is the reason I rarely show my face. I also just don’t believe that what my face looks like, or anyone else’s for that matter, should be considered important.
For fun, I do backpacking, mountain climbing, lift weights, and trail run.
The property is on a river and has well and septic. I do not show the main cabin because I do live here full-time, just me and Atlas, and I feel that it is a substantial safety risk for the internet to see the layout. However, I do have pictures and highlights of the property on my Instagram, @jessicas.atlas, if any one is curious.
My first TikTok video that did well was the one pinned to the top of my profile, featuring the Freight Train song. I was told by many in the comments that I inspired them, but I can not stress enough how much you all have inspired me. I’ve had serious health issues for the past two years during law school, and had a substantial life set back on September 22nd of this year due to said medical issues. The Freight Train video was posted October 11th. What your love and support has done for Atlas and I is indescribable. I was in an extremely discouraged state that made it almost impossible to get anything done on the property after this set back and the medical problems – you folks have inspired and motivated me after three long years of letting this place go by the wayside to breathe some life back into it. I will never be able to thank you enough.
I chose this lifestyle for the solitude and peace. But these videos and your love and support is the reason I am able to continue to have the motivation to do renovations in the first place. I am not a content creator, video editor, or media personality in the slightest. But I will continue posting videos for as long as people are interested in them. It keeps me motivated to continue fixing up the place, and is the least I can do to pay you back for everything you have done for me.
Prior to social media, I was extremely private person, and I’ve become a little overwhelmed with the attention and social media in general. I’m still trying to work through this, and one way is by being out of reception – I see your comments and messages eventually, and I cannot thank you enough. I try, and will continue to try, to get to all of the emails, comments, and messages, but it does take me a while. I still need to work on balancing my usual method of preserving my mental health through solitude while still giving you folks the encouragement and inspiration you’ve given me. Please bear with me.
I am painfully aware that not everyone has access to the wilderness like I do, and as you can tell from my lifestyle, I am a massive advocate for nature therapy. Since I have received so many messages about how the videos have brought you peace and inspiration, I try to will continue to post videos as often as my free time allows. I appreciate all of the love and support immensely, and will do everything I can to give you that love and support back.
My email (jessicas.atlas@gmail.com) is open to absolutely anyone – if you ever need a few words of encouragement, some support, or anything else, please reach out. All of you are experiencing adversity everyday, and I don’t want your fight to go unrecognized. Knowing that someone out there cares can make a world of difference. Hearing your stories has become an integral part of my motivation, and it means the absolute world to me. I encourage you to send me other life experiences as well if comfortable doing so – hearing your stories is one of the primary reasons I keep doing this.
I am also happy to answer any and all appropriate questions.
Please maintain the highest standard of respect, not just with me, but with everyone you interact with, both online and off.
